Memory foam

Visco-elastic foams

A different approach to memory foam

Thanks to hugely successful marketing campaigns by well-known companies, memory foam is a term that is now recognised the world over due to its widespread use in mattresses and pillows, but at Technical Foam Services we are harnessing these properties in new applications beyond the furnishing sector.

As an engineering-focused company at Technical Foam Services we concentrate on more unique, industry-specific applications where these versatile and high performance visco-elastic foams can be adopted.

The development of memory foam

Memory foam is a sophisticated product that consistently recovers its original shape following compression.

Developed by NASA under the brand name Confor foam in the 1980s, it was then launched into the wider market in the 1990s, when it was known as visco-elastic foam. It is now widely recognised as memory foam, which is primarily used in mattresses and cushions.

However, while many companies produce memory foam furnishings and bedding materials, the scope for the application of memory foam stretches far beyond this one limited area, and this is where Technical Foam Services' expertise comes to the fore.

As a result, rather than merely producing memory foam products that are already widely available, at Technical Foam Services we focus on developing and manufacturing products that go beyond more "standard" goods.

Harnessing consistent properties

What is unique about memory foam is its ability to consistently recover its shape after compression, so that it will return to its original form once the force is removed. This not only provides a superior level of comfort and cushioning, it also provides impact protection and strength, all of which are vital elements in a multitude of products that go far beyond furnishings and bed products.

As a result, at Technical Foam Services, we have developed and produced numerous new and exciting memory foam applications and products for our customers that harness these unique properties in a wider range of industry-specific sectors - all of which benefit from a foam that consistently recovers its original shape following compression. Examples of these include:

  • Computer keyboard supports
  • Helmet linings
  • Therapeutic pillows
  • Stress relief toys

Endless possibilities

We believe that the scope for new products manufactured from memory foam is immense and the possibilities are almost endless.

We can now supply memory foam materials and products in excess of 20 different densities and rigidity levels, ranging from soft to extremely hard, as well as flame retardant versions, to allow the widest field of product design imaginable.

Furthermore, with our outstanding technical and engineering capacity, we are able to convert memory foam sheets and blocks and manufacture foam products in a multitude of shapes and styles including 3D forms, egg box profiling, and even laminated to other foam types, making the possibilities almost limitless.

With your ideas and our technical expertise and conversion capabilities, the sky is the limit for the development of new, innovative memory foam applications, which is why we always welcome enquiries from designers who are considering using memory foam in a new product.
