Industrial applications for flexible foam

As the leading engineering-biased UK-based foam converter, at Technical Foam Services we produce a truly astounding range of foams and flexile foam products to meet the precise requirements of a vast range of industrial sectors, which include:

  • Construction and HVAC
  • Automotive
  • Transport
  • Electronics
  • Engineering and heavy industry
  • Medicine and science

Construction and HVAC

We supply a vast array of open-cell polyurethane and melamine, and closed cell polyethylene foams for a wide variety of functions in this sphere, such as:

  • Air and dust filters
  • Weatherproofing
  • Duct linings
  • Thermal insulation
  • Acoustic panels and sound absorbers

Included in this range is a comprehensive selection of fire retardant, non-burning solutions to meet FMVSS302, UL94 HF1 and Class O (black Pyrosorb, Fireseal and Basotect) standards, all developed specifically to endure the most demanding environments.

Automotive

As a trusted supplier of foams to a wide range of automotive and component manufacturers around the globe, we produce a vast range of products for car, bus and motorcycle OEMS and aftercare suppliers. These include:

  • Air and dust filters - installed during manufacture and as replacement components
  • Acoustic and sound absorbing foams
  • Gaskets and seals
  • Hoses and pipes
  • Polishing pads - manufactured for use on production lines and in the aftercare market

Transport

From ceramic filters for casting slim aerospace walls and linings, through air and dust filters for bus and train compressors, to O class fire retardant seating for railway carriages, the spectrum of solutions we develop for our customers in the transport sector is truly immense.

Electronics

As the recognised leader in engineering-biased foam conversion, we develop and produce a comprehensive range of foam solutions to meet the exacting requirements in this field. These range from permanent air and dust filters built into computers and other devices to hydrophilic foam packaging and case inserts to protect fragile goods from moisture and damage in transit.

Engineering and heavy industry

In spite of their lightweight structure, flexible foams offer a robust and effective solution in many heavy engineering and industrial sectors. We manufacture a wide range of technically advanced products, which include:

  • Gaskets, seals
  • Air and dust filters
  • Acoustic foams
  • Ceramic filters for metal casting

Medicine and science

With an established written protocol for handling medical foam grades, including the ability to offer sterilised and sealed products, we have a strong and varied customer base in the medical and scientific fields, for whom we manufacture products such as:

  • HME filters
  • Bedding
  • Wound dressings

Bespoke applications

As experts in the field of flexible foam we work in partnership with each and every customer to offer industrial foam solutions that meet the precise needs of each application, in terms of performance, durability, quality and cost-effectiveness.

We take an individual approach to each client and, while we have outlined some of our industrial products here, these are merely the tip of the iceberg. With unrivalled engineering capacities, the products we can develop are almost limitless. We also love a challenge so if you have an idea for a new foam product, please get in touch.

Industrial Foam Solutions from Technical Foam Services

Here at Technical Foam Services we are committed to designing, developing and manufacturing the best foam products on the market. Since 1990, we have been creating the best foam solutions for a huge variety of applications in our state of the art headquarters in Corby, Northamptonshire. Our mission is to deliver foam solutions for a range of industries which will fulfil each organisation's requirements.

Adhesive Coated Foam

If you are looking for a foam solution which can reduce noise levels or for cushioning, sealing or mounting, then you should maybe consider adhesive coated foam? We can provide adhesive coated foam for a variety of industries, including automotive, glass and glazing, construction and packaging industries. Our adhesive coated foam tapes are highly durable, UV, ageing and environmental resistant. We can supply adhesive coated foams which provide a dust and water seal, and our adhesive coated foams are available with low, medium and high densities.

Open Cell Polyurethane Foam

If you are involved in the packaging industry, you may require open cell polyurethane foam, the plastic packaging material that is regularly used to protect fragile items when being shipped. Open cell polyurethane foam is also generally used in building applications; however, using open cell polyurethane foam or closed cell polyurethane foam would depend on the individual requirements for each project.

Closed Cell Polyurethane

You may be wondering what the difference is between open cell polyurethane foam and closed cell polyurethane foam? While open cell polyurethane foam and closed cell polyurethane foam can both be used for most building applications, closed cell polyurethane foam is stronger and has a higher R-value, and it also has a greater resistance to air and water leakage. However, closed cell polyurethane foam is slightly more expensive in comparison to open cell polyurethane foam due to the more materials required for this foam solution.

HME Filters

We offer a range of sterilised and sealed products for medical and science fields, which is why we can provide our clients with a range of manufactured products, such as HME filters, bedding and wound dressings. HME filters can provide patient humidification and HME filters can also prevent cross-contamination. A HME filter can challenge viruses and bacteria as it is 99.9% effective; therefore, HME filters are ideal for use in respiratory wards. However, you should use with caution when using HME filters for heavy bronchitis.

Impregnated Foam

Here at Technical Foam Services we can provide impregnated foams which are available in a range of special grades, such as heat and moisture exchange (HME) foams, anti-static foams, conductive foams, PVC impregnated reticulated foam and acrylic impregnated foam. Impregnated foam is ideal for flame resistance and can absorb fumes easily; therefore, impregnated foam is suitable for industrial, automotive and construction environments.

If you would like to know more about our foam services, you should contact our technical team for advice and a free quote. We are committed to working in partnership with you and will ensure you receive the perfect foam product for your requirements.
